Physician Assistant, Division of Wound Healing & Regenerative Medicine,
Mr. Bannen started working as a physician assistant (PA) in Winthrop-University Hospital’s Department of Internal Medicine in 2007, following his graduation that year from the Physician Assistant Program at Touro College’s Bay Shore Campus. He transferred to Winthrop’s Department of Surgery and began working with wound patients in 2011, and since 2012 he has worked full-time in the department’s Division of Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine. In that position, he plays a central role in caring for patients at the Winthrop Wound Healing Center. He performs initial evaluations of new patients, gathering basic information in preparation for their examination by our center's wound healing physicians, and provides a preliminary assessment of what other specialists may be needed to consult on a patient’s condition.
Daniel also assists Dr. Brem and our other surgeons by preparing patients for surgery, making sure all preoperative tests have been completed and evaluated, and assisting during the procedure itself. In addition, he manages patients on the hospital floor, making sure their medical needs and concerns are being met, and helps oversee their discharge plan, ensuring that their medical treatment is effectively maintained following their return home or transfer to a subacute medical facility.
