Prior to her appointment as Clinical Research Fellow at Winthrop-University Hospital's Wound Healing Center, Dr. Howell served three years of her residency in general surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where she received the "Above and Beyond Resident Award" for exceptional work ethic and communication on the acute surgical team rotation. A graduate of St. George's University School of Medicine, Dr. Howell also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
"Through my experience in general surgery, I've become very interested in all aspects of wound surgery," notes Dr. Howell, who will finish her residency once her fellowship is completed. "I'm very excited to part of the Winthrop Wound Healing Center, and have the opportunity to learn the full scope of what’s involved in cutting-edge wound care." As a clinical research fellow, Dr. Howell is currently involved in writing Wound Center research grants and publications and organizing research symposiums featuring experts and leaders in regenerative medicine from around the country. She also observes and documents wound care procedures both in the operating room and the center's outpatient clinic.
