Virginia M. Donovan, MD

Chair, Department of Pathology, Winthrop-University Hospital

Dr. Virginia Donovan works closely with the Winthrop Wound Healing Center team to analyze the biology and microbiology of wound tissue samples taken from each of our patients. This analysis is then used to guide the patient’s surgical treatment as well as our team’s use of antibiotic and regenerative medicine therapies. In addition to being the respected leader of Winthrop’s Department of Pathology, she is a highly regarded specialist in Hematopathology and Clinical Pathology, and has shared her expertise with virtually every clinical department of Winthrop-University Hospital.

Dr. Donovan, who joined Winthrop-University Hospital in 1986, is also committed to excellence in education and fostering the active learning of residents. She has served as the Program Director of the hospital’s Pathology Residency Program for more than a decade, and is the Medical Advisor for the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus. Dr. Donovan received her MD degree from Johns Hopkins University, and went on to complete her residency in Anatomic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a past President and Chair of the Nassau County Society of Pathologists.
